How the sales work
Half off, on the right days
Goodwill's regional stores run holiday sales like this Presidents' Day half-off clothing day (a past sale, shown as an example), and every week one tag color is 50% off.
Check the Color of the Week page before you go; it changes each Sunday.
It's late October in Placer County. Closets are getting swapped from summer to fall, Elks lodges are lining up steakburns and Thanksgiving dinners, and veterans groups from Roseville to Auburn are getting ready for November 11.
The Assistance League of Greater Placer's Auburn thrift shop is run by volunteers, and its sales help fund 13 local programs.

Good Finds, Good Causes and Good Neighbors
Some of the quickest ways to feel at home in a new town are a Saturday thrift run, a pancake breakfast at the Elks lodge or a volunteer shift at the food bank. Placer County has all three, and most of it is within a few minutes of Roseville.
This guide starts with Placer County (Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn, Granite Bay and Loomis) and then takes a shorter look at Sacramento, El Dorado, Nevada, Sutter and Yuba counties. The first half covers thrift, charity, consignment, vintage and the Habitat ReStore. The second half covers lodges, veterans posts, service clubs, the food bank and the Salvation Army, with what newcomers can join and the public events coming up this fall.

Thinking About Moving Here?
Roseville and Placer County are easy places to put down roots. In your first month you can be on a first-name basis at the Thursday Rotary or Kiwanis lunch, the Elks breakfast or the food bank's warehouse floor. Downtown Roseville's Veterans Memorial Hall, Lincoln Street and Vernon Street put the Salvation Army, the Moose lodge and two service-club lunches within a few blocks of each other.
If you're downsizing or moving across town, the Habitat ReStore takes furniture and appliances, and the Goodwill Donation Xpress sites make drop-offs quick.
