Fall has landed at Pottery World

The family-run home and garden store at 4419 Granite Drive covers 3.5 acres, and its Halloween Sale runs through Oct. 18.

Stay for breakfast or lunch at the Pottery World Café, open daily until 3:30.

It's a Friday in October in Rocklin. Food trucks are lining up at Quarry Park, a guitar is warming up inside a 1905 granite building on Front Street, and across town the lights are coming on for the Quarry Bowl.

Rocklin has its own pyramid: Parker Whitney, who owned the ranch that became Whitney Oaks, was entombed in 1913 in a granite pyramid that still stands near the 11th green of the Whitney Oaks golf course.

A Little History

Rocklin's story is written in stone. A few dates tell it.

  1. 1857

    The Whitney ranch

George Whitney bought 320 acres west of town for sheep. His son Parker grew it to about 20,000 acres, today's Whitney Oaks and Whitney Ranch.

  2. 1864

    A railroad stop

Rocklin appeared as a Central Pacific stop, and its granite was already headed to railroad work and the State Capitol.

  3. 1867

    The roundhouse

Rocklin's roundhouse serviced engines for the climb over the Sierra.

  4. 1880

    Finnish quarrymen

Finnish families came to work the quarries, and machine quarrying peaked in the 1890s.

  5. 1883

    St. Mary's

St. Mary's of the Assumption was dedicated on Front Street. It's now Old St. Mary's Chapel.

  6. 1893

    Cityhood

Rocklin incorporated in February 1893, in the middle of the granite boom.

  7. 1908

    The railroad leaves

The roundhouse moved to Roseville, and Rocklin's railroad era ended.

  8. 1914

    Front Street burns

A fire leveled Front Street. The granite Barudoni Building stopped it from spreading south.

“The Barudoni Building's granite walls blocked the fire's southward progress.”

Barudoni Building historical marker, 2014

Front Street still draws crowds. Each September, Hot Chili & Cool Cars fills downtown with classic cars and chili.

Rocklin and Its Neighborhoods

Most of Rocklin is master-planned neighborhoods built since the 1980s, wrapped around an older downtown. Here's where each one eats, drinks and plays.

Whitney Oaks & Springfield

Oak-covered hills and golf-course streets on the old Whitney ranch. Springfield at Whitney Oaks is a gated 55+ community of 868 Pulte homes built from 1998 to 2003. Neighbors gather at Pyramid Bar & Grill and tee off at Whitney Oaks Golf Club.

Downtown & Front Street

Rocklin's oldest blocks, by the depot and Old St. Mary's Chapel. Cante Ao Vinho pours in the 1905 Barudoni Building, and 4 Heroes Grill serves kebabs and falafel on Rocklin Road.

The Quarry District

Pacific Street's old granite country. Moksa Brewing anchors the taproom scene, and Quarry Park Adventures runs zip lines and climbing walls inside a former quarry.

Granite Drive & Midas Avenue

Errand central near I-80, with some of the city's most fun shops: Pottery World, Antalya Delights & Cafe, and The Audio Nerd's record bins on East Midas.

Stanford Ranch

A master-planned community that began in the 1980s, with parks and greenbelts west of downtown. Locals know Taqueria La Rana and Pop's Pizza, side by side on Stanford Ranch Road.

Whitney Ranch

Rocklin's newer northwest side near Highway 65 and Whitney High. Nugget Market opened at 1051 Whitney Ranch Parkway in April 2026, with Dutch Bros just up the street.
